NEW CARROLLTON CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT
NARCOTICS & PATROL K-9 UNIT
Sergeant Marc Butler & "Kazaan"
New Carrollton City Police Department's second K-9 Team hit the streets in July of 2007, consisting of Sergeant Marc Butler and "Kazaan." Kazaan is a 2 year old Belgian Malinois, and is trained in Patrol, Tracking, Article Search, and Narcotics Detection.
Like Tobie and Officer Crisostomo above, Kazaan and Sergeant Butler are assigned to the Patrol Division, and assist their fellow patrol officers with all K-9 related duties on a daily basis. In addition to using Kazaan's drug-sniffing abilities, Kazaan can be used to assist with unsecured buildings, most commonly called when a burglar alarm is sounding and an unauthorized person is suspected of being in the premises, conducting a "track" of suspects whom have recently fled from a crime scene, searching for missing people, and conducting "article searches" for crime scene evidence such as guns, knives, and other weapons. And like NCPD's other K-9 team, Kazaan and Sergeant Butler are available to any other law enforcement agency which requests their assistance.
Both Tobie and Kazaan were trained by Washington K-9 Services in Spartanburg, SC. Additional information on the K-9 training program is available at: www.washingtonk9.com
Sergeant Butler and his K-9 partner Kazaan make their "debut" at the 2007 National Night Out celebration.
